Chinese Culture

Chinese Culture

China has many different interesting cultures. People like to wake up very early at 7am in the morning to eat breakfast called dim sum. Their lunch and dinner must have white rice to go with their food.

Lucky items have many different styles. The most common lucky item is "lucky cat." Business owners like to put it in front of their stores to bring in more customers and profits. Drivers like to hang ornaments with pic of Chairman Mao, Goddess of Mercy, gourd, etc. to give them blessing for driving safety.

Digital language, since the year 1999, has been widely used by a China popular TV series called "Criss-Cross Over Four Seas". Its famous digits are 5201314. It means "I love you forever". Following from that, people found out a lot of meaning by many digits put together. However, mostly Chinese people don't like the number 4, because its pronunciation sounds the same as the word "die" or "death". Many of the restaurants don't set the table with number 4, and many hotels don't set the room numbers with 4, also phone number and license plate number of cars rarely have the number 444.

Mahjong, a game of chance and also for entertainment invented by ancient Chinese. There are four people for one table, usually it takes a long time for one round, sometimes it took a whole day. A lot of Chinese people like to spend most of their time playing it with other people. Friends and neighbors usually play or watch together and used as a chance to get more news and rumors to keep up to date of everything around their lives. It's suitable for elders and the people who has a lot of time and no activities.

Drying clothes outside windows or balconies is usually done by many Chinese all over China, including Hong Kong. They do this because it is more healthy, saves electricity, and the sun can kill bacteria.

People in China loves to use umbrella for many purpose, versus in the USA, American people only use it for rain. Chinese loves to use their umbrellas not only for rainy days they also use them for windy and sunny days. It seems like they can use them all day except night time when it's not raining. However, mostly only women follow this trend maybe because men thought it's too feminine. One important reason is because women don't want to get a sun tan. They like to keep their skin as white as possible.

Chinese Food in America is not a same level with authentic Chinese Food. Authentic Chinese Food are more more more delicious than "Chinese-American food."

    4. It sounds like you guys mostly interested in Food! There are many different ways to cook each dish of food, also different places have their unique tastes. Why do you think the food in Chinatown is not REAL Chinese Food? All of the Chinese chefs came from all parts of China (Beijing, Taiwan, Shanghi, Fujian, Guangdong, etc.) So you think the people who cook the food in China is authentic Chinese food, and the same people who came to USA cooking the same food is not authentic Chinese food?
By the way, the YouTube video that you posted is not about what authentic Chinese food is. It's about Chop Suey an American-Chinese food that is different from Chinatown restaurants.
